Evelyn Louise Telfer, 106 of Big Rapids, passed into the arms of her Lord and Master Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Mission Point of Big Rapids.
Evelyn was born on July 1, 1915 in Denver, Indiana to Clinton Clay and Mary Agnes (Breidenstine) Robbins. She graduated from Reed City High School in 1934.
She was married to Gavin Bill William Telfer in the Presbyterian Church of Big Rapids October 16, 1934. Together they raised four children; Gordon, Thomas, Gavin and Mary. She retired from the Big Rapids School System as head baker in what is now the Big Rapids Middle School. Evelyn very much enjoyed the students and baking bread, desserts and cookies for their meals. Her baked goods were all made from scratch, there were no Store Bought baked goods while she was on the payroll.
Evelyn has been a proud member of the Harry K. Kunzie Post 98 American Legion Auxiliary since 1955.
She was an avid bowler and bowled for the Schuberg Insurance Womens Bowling Team for many, many years.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Mary (Grant) Blakely, of Big Rapids, Gavin (Edna) Telfer of Bitely; and daughter-in-law Linda Telfer of Big Rapids.
Also surviving are her grandchildren Megan (Rob) Payne, of Ada; Justin Blakely, of Los Angeles, CA; Tony (Liz) Telfer of Big Rapids and James (Rachael) Telfer of Lansing. Also surviving are her three great-grandchildren Landon and Wesley Payne, Kendall Telfer and one on the way, who brought much joy to her life.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1966, and her sons Thomas and his wife Linda in 2014 and Gordon, who lovingly wrote this obituary before he passed in 2020. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Edna Haviland, Lucille Hurdle and Dorothy Baxter.
Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Greg Larsen officiating from the United Church of Big Rapids.
