Evelyn M. Hampel, age 88 of Rodney, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015. She was born October 15, 1926 the daughter of Delbert and Jennie (Soper) Maguire. Evelyn was born in Grant Center and moved to Big Rapids during her High School years; she graduated in 1944. Evelyn married Bruce C. Hampel on December 23, 1945 and together they made their home on the family farm in Martiny Township. She worked for several businesses in Big Rapids including; in the office at Hanchett Manufacturing, at First National Bank and as the Office Manager at Wolverine World Wide. Evelyn finished her working career as the Mecosta County 77th District Court Clerk, retiring in 1990. Evelyn enjoyed many years of Polka, Waltz and Square dancing with her husband Bruce. She will be remembered as a great cook and talented seamstress. She was a member of Eagles Aerie #2535 Ladies Auxiliary of Big Rapids. Evelyn was a devout member of the Chippewa Lake Community Church. She leaves her cherished family of three children; Kay (John) Reid of Rodney, Rex (Barbara) Hampel of Rodney, Kathy (Douglas) Carroll of Barryton; grandchildren, Jamie (Frank) Bissett, Justin (Amy) Hampel, Aaron (Jamie) Hampel, Nicole (Eric) Damveld; great-grandchildren, Hayven, Westyn and Berkley Hampel and Kensington Grace Damveld and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Bruce and her brother and his wife; Forrest and Burnedda Maguire. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 14th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Roger Bennett officiating. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Evelyn will be laid to rest at the Martiny Township Cemetery in Rodney. Memorial contributions in Evelyn's name may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Michigan.
