Eugene E. Hull, age 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his daughters home with his family by his side. Eugene was precise in every way in life; he came into this world on July 10, 1935, and left this world on his birthday. Eugene was born in Big Rapids, the son of Ezra and Olive (Smith) Hull.
He began his working career as a lineman for Hydaker-Wheatlake before he was called from the United States Army Reserve and deployed to Germany in 1956. While in Germany, he met Charlotte K. Reinmller, and they were married on October 14, 1958. Together they raised their family in Big Rapids. After Eugene was honorably discharged, he returned to Hydaker-Wheatlake for a short time until he changed his career to stay more local with Benedict Manufacturing as a machinist.
Eugene was an active member of the Big Rapids American Legion Post 98; he was an officer and was on the Firing Squad. Eugene also looked forward to going to the Elks. He was a loving, kind, and selfless gentleman. Eugene always had a smile on his face, was a good listener, and became friends with everyone he met. He enjoyed fishing and was a talented woodworker and present wrapper, where his precision also came into play.
Eugene loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his two daughters, Carmen (Phillip) Currie of Big Rapids and Carmella (Robert II) Johnson of Big Rapids; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gordon (Barbara) Hull of South Haven and Floyd (Barbara) Hull of Kingsley; three sisters-in-law, Laura Hull of Mt. Pleasant, Laura Hull of Fremont, and Shirley Hull of Mackinaw City; many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son Edward Eugene Hull, daughter Sylvia (Hull) Woods, three brothers Robert, Carl, and James Hull, sister Velma Hull, and nephew David Hull.
Funeral services will take place 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Chaplain Daniel Pflug officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14th and again one hour prior to the service on Thursday, all at the Funeral Home. Eugene and Charlotte will be laid to rest with their son Eddie at Hungerford Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Eugenes name to Meceola Currie Comfort Home, PO Box 61, Paris, Michigan 49338.
