Obituary

Ernest "Butch" Powell, age 67 of Morley, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at Spectrum Health Blodgett Campus in Grand Rapids. He was born September 1, 1943 in Norwich, England. Butch was the son of Ralph and Betty (Barker) Powell who were a World War II Army serviceman and his English bride. Following the war the young family left England and returned to their hometown of Morley. Butch graduated from Morley High School in 1961 and later married Rosie Skahan. He was a tool and die maker most of his life and for the past 5 years Butch had made his home in Lakeview. He is survived by his three children; Rosalie (John) Wallace of Middleville, Gary Powell, Dina (Alan) Scott; the children's mother, Rosie Powell, Butch's mother, Betty Powell, his sister Janette Greene all of Morley; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Butch was preceded in death by his sister, Lucy Schouw, a nephew, Jeff Bush and his grandmother from England, Ellen Barker. The family will greet friends on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids beginning at 2:00 p.m. and. concluding at 4:00 p.m. with a prayer. Spring burial will take place at the Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley.
