Ernest "Ernie" Newman, age 93, died Friday June 17, 2022 in Big Rapids. He was born December 30, 1928 in Lansing, the son of Ernest and Mabel (Frazier) Newman. Ernie graduated from Lansing Tech High School in 1947. He married the love of his life, H. Delores Darling in Lansing February 5, 1949. Ernie retired from General Motors after over 30 years. In his retirement, Ernie and Delores bought an 80-acre hobby farm in the Remus area. After selling the farm, they permanently moved to the Chippewa Lake area. Ernie enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. He would process his own deer and was open to teaching anyone who wanted to learn. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his trips to the library. Ernie had a life-long love for motorcycles which he rode into his seventies. This was a hobby that he shared with his father, his son, grandsons, and even great-grandsons. Ernie was an influential man who made a large impact on his grandchildrens lives. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed by many.
Ernie is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Delores of Chippewa Lake; daughters, Pamela Rock of Ruskin, Florida, Cindy Newman of Alma; grandchildren, Sean Newman, Joel Newman, Chelsie Martin, Amy Waldron; sister Joyce Dennie; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael E. Newman; grandchildren, Kelly Wegenka, Holly Waldron; and sister, Donna Edsall.
