Emma H. Crystal, age 86 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 16, 2013 at Mecosta County Medical Center. She was born September 26, 1926 in Camden, New Jersey the daughter of Howard L. and Florence (Graham) Farra. Emma married Len Crystal on September 24, 1949 in Grand Rapids; where they made their home, until moving to Big Rapids in 1963. Emma worked at Ferris State University for over 26 years. She retired as supervisor of the FSU Copy Center in 1988. Emma and Len wintered in Lutz, Florida for 20 years. She was a member of MARSP and The Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Emma loved to play golf and bowl. She will be forever missed by her loving family, including her husband of 63 years, Leonard "Len" Crystal; her daughter, Karen Shepherd of Grand Ledge; her son, Greg (Linda) Crystal of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Stacey (Jeff) Schmidt of Holt, Doug (Lezah) Shepherd of Holt, Brian (Mitzi) Crystal of Suffolk, VA, Michael (Heather) Crystal of Mooresville, NC; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Graham; a sister, Mary; son-in-law, Mike Shepherd and a special aunt, Emma Foye. Funeral services will take place 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Clay Bates officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 19th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Grand Rapids on Friday. Memorial contributions in Emma's name may be made to the Manna Pantry in Big Rapids.
