Eloise "Ellie" Yanez, age 92, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. She was born February 4, 1925 in Detroit. She was one of eleven children born to Joseph and Felicia (Pea) Yanez. Eloise was handicapped due to polio at an early age.
In spite of many health challenges throughout her life, she worked full time in the insurance field in Detroit and the Mayors office in the Los Angeles City Hall. A Detroiter all her life, Eloise moved to California in 1982.
In 2005 she chose to come to Big Rapids to live under the guidance and care of her nieces, Irene and Ella Villa. Eloise resided at both Harmony Pines and Creekside Manor adult foster care homes in Big Rapids. She lived under the excellent care of Mary and Michael Chaffee and their staff.
Eloise showed concern for humanity by doing philanthropic work at a Los Angeles senior center, mental health facilities and helping students in the school reading programs.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews living throughout the United States, Canada and locally by her two nieces, Irene and Ella Villa of Stanwood. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
She was laid to rest, alongside her family, at Holy Sepulcher Catholic Cemetery, in Southfield, MI at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017.
