Obituary

Eloise Marion Lundberg, age 95 of Big Rapids, MI, surrounded by loved ones at her daughters home, went peacefully to be with her Lord on June 18, 2018. Born to Mark and Marion (Peck) Lamos on March 29, 1923, Eloise grew up in Barryton, MI. She was a cheerleader and drum majorette for Barryton High School, and enjoyed summers at her beloved Chippewa Lake and ice skating on the river in the winter. She assisted her grandfather in his medical office during high school, and worked in the office of the hospital in Big Rapids after graduation. It was there that she met a young soldier returning from England. They married in 1946 and made their home for over fifty years on a farm near Clear Lake outside of Big Rapids where they raised their two daughters. Eloise was devoted to her faith, family, and country. She loved life as a mother and homemaker, then as a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids and was active in church and community activities while raising her family and caring for her house, yard, and garden. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality and loved to bake, welcoming frequent visitors with her famous pies, molasses cookies, and Swedish brown bread. From the drop of the first puck in the Ferris ice arena, she was an avid Bulldog Hockey fan. But one of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildrens many baseball and hockey games, traveling all over the United States to cheer them on. Eloises love for animals included her dogs and grand-dogs, cats, horses, the Polled Hereford cattle she and Jim raised, and the hundreds of Canadian geese that would flock to her pond. Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jeanne (David) Arnold, her husband James Lundberg, Jr. She is survived by daughters, Chris (Wendell) Weber and Laurie Lundberg Towner; grandchildren, Rick (Ann) Smith, Dan (Joy) Smith, Brynne (Paul) Towner McClanahan, Kaitlin (Bill Patti) Towner, Scott Weber and special friend, Jaclynne Bishop, Amy (Austin) Gebhardt, and Jenny (Daniel) Luckett, ; and great-grandchildren, Karly, Cayden and Cuyler Smith, Cassidy and Claire McClanahan, Jordan Smith, Gavin Gebhardt, and Felix Luckett . She is greatly missed and cherished by family, friends, and the many caregivers whove come to love Mrs. Lundberg as their "Grandma." Visitation will be held at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, MI on Wednesday, June 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and the funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, also in Big Rapids. A graveside service will follow at Pine Plains Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
