Elnora M. Benjamin, age 95 of Big Rapids and formerly a lifelong resident of Barryton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022. She was born November 11, 1926 at home near Lake, Michigan the daughter of Walter and Mary (Craford) Sherman. Elnora married Earl Benjamin on September 3, 1949 and together they made their home in Barryton where they started a large and loving family. Earl passed away in 1969 and a few years later Elnora married his twin brother, James. Affectionately known as Uncle Jim, they were married until he passed in 1985. Elnora was an accomplished and well-known seamstress throughout the area. She could make anything from wedding dresses to horse blankets. Every year Elnora put in a huge and productive garden for her family. She worked school elections, made wreaths and holiday roping and provided daycare in her home for many years. Elnora is survived by six children, Virginia (Steve) Huffman of Barryton, Larry (Carol) Benjamin of Barryton, Gloria (Dennis) Pelton of Wyoming, MI, Ken (Sherrie) Benjamin of Eaton Rapids, Laura Place of Barryton, Terry (Debbie) Benjamin of Comstock Park; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a son, Oscar Fay Sherman, a daughter-in-law, Linda Sherman, son-in-law, Douglas Wartella, 7 siblings and three grandchildren, Jeff Huffman, Amanda McClintock and Bradley Huffman. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Elnora will be laid to rest at Flake Cemetery in Barryton. Memorial contributions in Elnoras name may be made to the Activities Fund at The Brook of Big Rapids where she had happily made her home for the past four years.
