Elmer F. Lackie, age 85, of Lackie's Birch Haven, Barryton passed away unexpectedly, Thursday June 22, 2006 at his home. He was born September 3, 1920 in Isabella County to Elmer A. and Edna (Mason) Lackie. Elmer married Myrtle Seaman on September 7, 1940. They made their home in Isabella County where Elmer began his career as a farmer. They moved to Kent City in 1950, he continued to farm and also worked for General Motors. The family then moved near Barryton where they owned a large parcel of swamp covered land. Elmer had a vision, and in spite of much criticism, he developed that land into the current " Lackie's Birch Haven" A development that has provided the Barryton area with over 300 home sites for both permanent and summer residents. In 1967 Elmer and Myrtle moved to their present home at Lackies Birch Haven. Elmer is survived by: His loving wife of over 65 years, Myrtle 1 daughter: Louella (Fred) Hilden of Barryton 4 sons: Raymond Harold (Sharon) Lackie of Grant Merlin (Vendela) Lackie of Howard City Larry (Joann) Lackie of Barryton Dennis (Lucinda) Lackie of Barryton 18 Grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren a brother, James Lackie and a sister, Margaret Johnson, both of California and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lackie and 2 brothers, Bob and Harold Lackie. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 26th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Randy Piatt officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday, June 25th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Strong Cemetery, Barryton.
