Obituary

Ellen Louise Snavely went to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 30, 2023. She was born August 17, 1941 in Big Rapids, Michigan. She was the daughter of Theodore and Erma (Thomas) Cousineau. Ellen met Marvin Snavely at an Easter Sunday gathering and they were eventually married in 1961; together they had two sons, Mark and Brad. She cherished her family and, later, loved spending time with her grandchildren. Ellen had a great love for all music. She enjoyed hymns as well as contemporary worship arrangements. As a young woman and throughout her life she faithfully served Third Avenue Church of God in Big Rapids as Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Pianist and Organist. Ellen enjoyed a 50+ year career as a piano and organ teacher, sharing her love of music with hundreds of students. Though humble, her deep and enduring love for Jesus bore much fruit in the lives of those around her. Ellens family will always remember her heart for the marginalized, teaching her sons the value of every human life as she brought them along to visit the elderly and disabled. She lived much of her later years on her knees, bringing the concerns of everyone she met to God. She was loved, and will be missed, by all who knew her. She is survived by Marvin, her beloved husband of 62 years; sons Mark (Jana) Snavely of Mars, PA; Brad (Kelle) Snavely of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Jaron (Allison) Snavely, Jenna (Luke) Potutschnig, Jathan Snavely, Jonathan (Erin) Snavely, Christine (Daniel) Bloecher, Matthew, Sophia, and Josiah Snavely; one great-grandson on the way; siblings Dale (Kathleen) Cousineau, Arden (Verna) Cousineau, and Karen (Robert) Snavley; sister-in-law, Diane (David) Johnson; and many deeply loved nieces and nephews. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Theodore and Donald Cousineau. A Celebration of Life is being planned for a later date.
