Ellen Marie Cox, aged a remarkable 101, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her daughter Rayleens, home in Saginaw. She was born August 28, 1917 in Big Rapids, the daughter of John and Barbara (Kett) Dinkel. Ellen married Raymond J. Cox on November 7, 1936 in Big Rapids. They made their home in Martiny Township where they owned and operated a farm for many years. Ellen worked many jobs outside the home and farming. She worked at the A&P Store, the glove factory and Berglund Furniture Factory. She also worked in food service at both Big Rapids High School and Ferris State University. Ellen was a custodian at the Mecosta County Courthouse and cleaned several private homes in the area. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and caring for her grandchildren Following her husbands death and at the age of 72, Ellen moved to her daughter, Kathleens home in Kalamazoo. Ellen lived a long and meaningful life. She made a lasting impact on her family and most of the people she came in contact with. She is survived by two daughters, Rayleen (Tom) Lawler of Saginaw, Kathleen Thomas of Kalamazoo; grandchildren, Randy (Krista) Martiny, Cindy (Gregg) Sanders, Meghan (John) Aird, Xavier (Olivia) Lawler, Haley (Billee) Parker and Hannah Thomas; great-grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Dennis, Bobby Porter, Sandra (Greg Ayuk) Porter, Olivia and Nathan Sanders, Lochlan and Wilder Aird, Lillyana and Isabella Fila, Jaxon and Zayne Parker; great-great-grandchildren, Lydia, Kallen and Evieann Dennis and Mekhi Ayuk. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond J. Cox; an infant son, John Raymond Cox; her daughter, Joyce Ann Martiny; her granddaughter, Sandra Martiny; her brother, Fredrick Dinkel and two sisters, Bertha Uher and Alma Zorovich. Funeral services will take place 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Reverend Kaye Ferguson-Patton officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 14th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Highland View Cemetery in the spring.
