Elizabeth Osburn Adkins passed away September 11, 2008 at the age of 94. A daughter of Wilson Dow Osburn and Margaret McLachlan Osburn, she was born in Big Rapids on May 3, 1914. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles W. Adkins; her daughter and son-in-law, Peg and Art Tetzlaff of Big Rapids, her son, Tom of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren, Alicia T. Bay, Adam Tetzlaff and Todd Tetzlaff; five great grandchildren; and her nephews and nieces, Virginia Cooper, Ann McDaniels, Charles O. Schmunk, Chuck G. Osburn, Brad Osburn, Katherine Kline, Sylvia Edwards, James White and Ronald White. Elizabeth was a graduate of Big Rapids High School and attended Ferris Institute as a young woman and then later took further accounting courses in which. She fully enjoyed her position as the "Older" student. She married Charles W. Adkins, whom she met at Ferris, on August 22, 1941 at her home, Osburndale, in Big Rapids. A lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school for many years and was church Financial Secretary for about 15 years. She was also a long time member of the Big Rapids Garden Club and a past officer of that organization as well as the Hospital Auxiliary where she was especially active in the gift shop. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 304 Elm Street in Big Rapids with Reverend Dean Prentiss officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church of Big Rapids' Endowment Fund. Envelopes may be obtained at the memorial service or the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids where arrangements were made.
