Obituary

Elinor E. Tetzlaff, lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the age of 89. She was born July 15, 1920 in Big Rapids on Osceola Street where she lived with her parents, Otto and Louise (Kaminski) Tetzlaff. Elinor attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1939. Elinor worked for several business in Big Rapids including; Scott's 5 and 10 Store, the Kingsley Food Store on North State Street, she was the Billing Clerk for the Pineshops furniture factory, worked at Hanchett Manufacturing and finally in the business office at Ferris State University, until her retirement. Elinor had many interests and hobbies. She was very active in 4H, where she taught ceramic and she was an avid reader. During her 7 years as a resident at Metron she volunteered as cashier for their arts and crafts sales for as long as she was able. Elinor was a lifetime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a member of the L.L.W. and served in the Ladies Aid. Although she was never married, Elinor always had plenty of family around her. She loved people and will always be remembered as kind and giving by her loving family whose members include; 2 sisters, Doris (Dean) Larsen of Big Rapids, Alice Helms of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews, especially Shari and Karen Larsen both of Big Rapids and dear friend, Rhonda Stratton of Big Rapids. Elinor was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Louise. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 23rd at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor John Bookshaw officiating. The family will greet friends 2 hours prior to services, (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorial contributions in Elinor's name may be made to either St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Big Rapids or the American Cancer Society.
