Eileen King, age 79 of Traverse City formerly of the Mecosta County area, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at her home. She was born in Mecosta County on May 5, 1943, one of four daughters, to Peter Godfrey and Gladys (Wilber) Katke. Eileen attended Mecosta High School and graduated in 1961 with high honors. She earned her nursing degree in 1965 from Harley Nursing School in Flint.

Eileen married her high school sweetheart, Charles "Chuck" King, in February of 1964 at the Big Rapids First United Methodist Church. She spent her professional career working in emergency rooms and later as a manager of an in-home help agency. Eileen retired in 2002. She took great pride in her work as a nurse.

Eileen was a dedicated sister, coachs wife, mom, grandma, and Chucks partner in life for 58 years. The things that brought her happiness were flowers, the beach, floating on Lake Michigan, family, supporting her husband, and being a grandma.

Eileen is survived by her two children, Diann King and Charles "Charlie" (Kelly) King, both of Traverse City; two grandchildren, Charles and Maxwell King; two sisters, Patricia Lehman of Massachusetts and Judy Blanco of Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck King, and sister Leah Simontal.

Funeral Services will take place 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Friday, September 9, 2022, at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Eileen will be laid to rest at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids.
