Edward F. "Ed" Berwanger, age 50 of Rodney, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 28, 2016 at his home. He was born January 1, 1966 in Hammond, Indiana and was raised in Calumet City, Illinois. He was the son of Norma (Dinelli) Grimes. Ed was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He married Noreen "Dawn" Blomberg on October 5, 1990 and together they raised their family in Big Rapids. Eds passion was roofing and building. He worked in construction since he was 15 years old, working in California, Nevada, and Michigan. Ed began his own construction business, Berwanger and Sons LLC. He enjoyed animals, especially his dog Star. Ed was a member of the Big Rapids AmVets Post 1941. Ed loved spending time with his family and grandchildren; he will be greatly missed. Ed is survived by his wife of 26 years, Dawn Berwanger of Rodney; three sons, Cory (Alyssa) Berwanger of Rodney, Joseph Berwanger of Big Rapids, and Nathan Berwanger of Rodney; three grandchildren, Nivera, Azkadellia, and Gunnar Berwanger; mother, Norma Grimes of Walhalla; two brothers, Andy Grimes of Walhalla and Albert Grimes of Walhalla; two sisters, Brandy Berwanger of Indiana and Kim (Donnie) Hornaday of Indiana; niece Annabelle and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Ted Grimes and an infant brother, Larry. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
