Obituary

Earl Emerson Borseth, age 87, of Big Rapids, passed away at his home on Friday, November 22, 2013. Earl was born on May 10, 1926, in Kent, Washington, the son of Paul Nels and Cloe Armeda (Hulse) Borseth. He married Margaret Cenko in September 1949. She preceded him in death in 1985. He married Anna M. (Esch) Momany in 1988. He graduated with honors from Scipio High School, Scipio, Indiana, in 1943. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 participating in the V-12 Program at Purdue University and was commissioned in June of 1946. He served on the USS SARITA and USS KERSTIN. He graduated from Purdue University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in May 1947. He served in the U.S Naval Reserve from 1947-1960 and was honorably discharged in February 1960. He attended Butler University from 1947-1948 and Indiana University from 1948-1949, earning an MBA degree in Business Management. He was Process Engineer at Packard Motor Car Company, River Rouge, Michigan, in 1952 and Production Foreman at Cummins Engine Company, Columbus, Indiana, from 1954-1956. He worked at Bendix Products-Missiles Division in South Bend, Indiana. He shared ownership of a Laundromat with his brother, Norman, in South Bend.. He earned a degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University at the Center for Applied Science Technology. He taught Business courses at Wayne State University, Olivet, Michigan State University, Lake Superior State University and Ferris State University and retired from teaching at the age of 72. Earl is survived by his sons, Donald (Patricia Merry) Borseth of Williamston, Steven Borseth of San Diego, and daughters, Doreen and Elaine Borseth of San Diego, and Michele (Dee Whiteley) Borseth of Westminster, CO., as well as Grandchildren: Alexander Pardes and Arielle Pardes of San Diego. Surviving, in addition, is his second wife, Anna M. Borseth of Big Rapids, and children, Ruth (Andrew) Sajnenkoff, Big Rapids, Deanne (Steve) Stouten, Greenville, Ross (Sally) Momany, Reed City, and Kenneth (Anne) Momany, Belding. Grandchildren: Adam (Amy) Foust, Paris, Tasha (Steve) McBride and Todd Sajnenkoff and Erin Bean, Big Rapids, Ross E. Momany and Rebecca (Jon) Owen, Reed City, Anthony (Amber) Momany, Grand Rapids, Monica Momany and John Stewart, Walker and Joshua and Nicholas Momany, Belding. Great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Gabrielle, and Alyssa Foust, Christopher and Jacob McBride, Jonathan and Emmet Owen, and Jackson Momany. Also surviving is nephew, Nicholas (Afife) Borseth and great-nieces, Dulcie, Daledah, Reema and Rita Borseth, all of Brisbane, Australia. He was preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Cloe (Hulse) Borseth, his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret (Cenko) Borseth, a brother, Norman A. Borseth and sisters-in-law, (Nancy (DeCenzo) Borseth and Dulcie Borseth of Brisbane, Australia. He helped build some of the first houses for Habitat for Humanity in Mecosta County, drove for MCCOA and was an active member of Northland United Methodist Church and the community. He owned several antique tractors and trucks and loved everything mechanical. He took great pride in his birth and extended families, often referring to them as "his jewels". He was a gentle, quiet, humble, unassuming man with a grateful, happy attitude. He never complained, never criticized and was encouraging and helpful to everyone. We are so blessed to have such a kind, generous, loving man as a model for our lives. We will greatly miss him and his hugs. Earl's family will greet friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Northland United Methodist Church, 6842 Northland Drive (Old US 131 South), Stanwood, Michigan. The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor Dominic Tommy officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Weidman, Michigan in the spring of 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Northland United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the church.
