Obituary

Dwight Franklin Hall, 87, passed away February 4, 2017, at home in Stanwood, MI. He was under Hospice care after complications from a stroke. Dwight was the fourth of nine children born to Ira Guenther Hall and Gladys Elizabeth Myers Hall. He grew up on the family farm in the Bell area and graduated from Morley High School in 1948, President of his class. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and served his country in Japan and Korea, then returned home and in January of 1953, married Verna Jean Loss. Paula, Diwon, and Richard were born to this union and the family lived on East 4th street in Morley for many years. Dwight was a member of the Masonic Lodge and stayed active in military service through the National Guard during this time. He worked for Mecosta County in the Sheriffs Department, as a Deputy and member of the Search and Rescue Squad; he eventually became the Undersheriff. During this time, he also was the Village Marshall, Mayor, and a Volunteer Fireman in Morley. His children remember many times when someone involved in an accident would be brought to their house while waiting for assistance in getting home, or a car repaired, sometimes even staying overnight if necessary. Dwight enjoyed all aspects of police work, except when children were hurt. Then in 1969, he left the National Guard and rejoined the army. Dwight strongly felt the need to serve his country once again and the family moved to Ft. Ord, CA, while he trained for his deployment to Vietnam. He retained his rank of Captain from the National Guard, and soon became well respected for his knowledge and wisdom, not just with the officers, but also with the enlisted men.

"That is not easy. He was respected because he never asked anyone to do something he couldnt do himself. He was a tough soldier, boss, and friend. RIP Dai uy."

CPT. William Pearson, Ranger, Infantry, MOS 31542, Le Trung, Vietnam 1969-1970 Verna, the kids, and the pets, returned to Morley for the year Dwight was gone and then upon his coming home from Vietnam, they moved to Ft. Lawton, WA and enjoyed living in the Seattle area. Many friends were made there who stayed in touch throughout their lives. When Dwight left the army, the family of 3 at that time, returned to Morley. He began another career with Mecosta County as the Building Inspector, helping implement many of the new codes. The family enjoys remembering many happy times, travelling around the states and Canada, visiting various family and friends. Laughter always accompanied these trips, but you had to tow the line and do what was expected of you as well. Once a military man, always a military man! After Verna passed in 2011, Dwight married Carol A. Briggs, and added a mother in law, a step-son and step-daughter, and their families to the clan. Dwight and Carol also enjoyed trips over their five years of marriage together, especially to the Upper Peninsula, Idaho, and Arizona, before his health began to slow him down. He stayed quite strong, though, right up to the end. In fact, at one point in the hospital after his stroke and before coming home with Hospice Care, he tried to pull all the tubes out and get out of bed. This caused much havoc and took 5 nurses to get him calmed down. Two of the nurses were lifted off the floor as he raised his one unaffected arm! Dwight was loved by many, known by more, and is survived by his wife, Carol Hall, of Stanwood; daughters, Paula (Jack) Way of Idaho Falls, ID; Diwon (Al) Cherry of Big Rapids; son, Richard (Dawn Johnson) Hall of Tustin; brother and sister in law, Forrest (Tony) and Kathy, of Cedar Springs; sisters in law, Becky Loss (Loren) Ryberg, Rock Springs, WY; Eleen Hall, Morley; Phyllis Hall, Morley; Shirley (Harry) Baker, Newaygo; Joan Reagan Loss, Grants Pass, OR; brother in law, Greggory Loss, Chester, NC; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including several he knew his entire life; Carols children, James McCullough and family; Johanna (Jerry) Kleis and their daughters, Christa (Jeff) McCaan and children, Logan and Marissa; and Elizabeth Kleis Harris; Carols cousin, Diane (Tom) Bunce and their family.
