Duane Clarence Stout, Major US Army Retired, of Morley, passed away June 23, 2022 at the age of 79.
Duane was born on October 16, 1942 in Lakeview to Durward Arnold and Hilda May (Smith) Stout. He was a member of the first football team at Morley Stanwood High School and graduated in 1960. Duane went on to attend Michigan State University where he graduated in 1964 with a Bachelors Degree in Forestry.
Duane entered the US Army in August of 1966, beginning a distinguished career as an officer, helicopter pilot and flight instructor. He would go on to serve in various locations throughout his twenty-year military career, including two years in Vietnam and nearly seven years in Alaska. It was during his time in Alaska that he was subsequently awarded the Soldiers Medal for heroism.
Duane married Donna L. (Smeltzer) Bruce on August 3, 1985 in Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.
Returning to his childhood home in the Fall of 1986, Duane and Donna purchased the Orchard/Family Farm. He would spend the next eleven years of his "first" retirement tending to the day-to-day operations of the farm in Stanwood, Michigan. All while maintaining his life-long-love of the outdoors through his passion of hunting, fishing and his inability to ever sit still!
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Christopher A. (Denise) Stout of Cumming, Georgia and their three children Wyatt, Nate and Taylor, Craig G. (Mikki Noro) Stout of Broomfield, Colorado; two step-children, Christine Frederick and her three children Sydney, Samantha, Logan and great grandson Branlee, Gary L. Bruce Jr. of Morley and his two children Gunner and Emmerson; three sisters, Janet Stout of Big Rapids, Diane (Dan) Herin of Hesperia and Peggy McGuire of Muskegon.
