Dr. Robert G. Brown, age 71 of Big Rapids, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at his home. He was born January 31, 1938 in Cynthiana, OH the son of Walter and Loretta (Campbell) Brown. Robert was honorably discharged from the United States Air force. He was a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Bob operated his own practice in Big Rapids for nearly 20 years and the National Eye and Ear in Sierra Vista, AZ for several years. Bob loved to hunt and fish; he was a life member of Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid sailor as well. Bob was active in the community with memberships in the Big Rapids Elks Club, the Rotary Club and the Big Rapids Lions Club. He was a member of St. Paul's Campus Parish in Big Rapids. Bob is survived by his loving family whose members include, his wife, Betsy; 3 children, Robert (Dana) Brown of Phoenix, AZ, Kirsten Harris of Phoenix, AZ, Michael Goode of Portland, OR; a grandson Brendan Brown; a cousin John (Mary Ann) McCoy of Pique, OH, several nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a step-daughter, Jennifer Goode. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Father Joe Fix officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to Hospice of Michigan.
