Obituary

DOUGLAS STUART MAGINNIS- 76, lifelong resident of Big Rapids, entered into Heaven on Sunday, September 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 3, 1946 in Detroit Michigan. After graduating from Big Rapids High School and Ferris State College, he was owner and operator of Maginnis Standard Service Station on State Street for over 45 years. Doug was also a proud volunteer fire fighter, and after retirement he enjoyed driving busses for both the Big Rapids School system and MOTA. In his high school years, he was quite the pool shooter, and after graduation played softball, golf, and then an avid bowler owning his own team "Maginnis Standard". To the surprise and delight of his children, he was also a darn good "boogie woogie" piano player (much to the dismay of his piano teacher, Mrs. DeMoss).

Doug loved deeply and cherished life, his family, pets, God, his church and very dear childhood friends. He looked forward to playing cards each week with his best buddies, Bruce Everet, Al Mosher, Corky Hollister, Tom Isabell, Bob Lackney and sons Doug & Don. Sundays were special to him and he took pleasure in the fellowship with his church family and worshiping at 3rdAvenue Methodist Church.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife of nearly 50 years and the love of his life Loretta, his sons Doug (Tammy) Maginnis, Don Maginnis, Doug (Dawn) Corrie, and daughter Constance (Danny) Westgate. His grandchildren Julie (Rob) Groendyke, Nicole (Mike) Krucinski, Kelly (Zach) Burrington, Sarah (Sean) Corrion, Lauren Maginnis, Leah Maginnis, Jonathan (Monica) Corrie, Jennifer (Nathan) Sigmund, Nick Westgate, Jack Westgate, Todd (Michaela) Westgate, his great-grandchildren Isabella, Sebastian, Alan, Amelia, and Bailey, his sisters Jolene, Pam, and Trish, his brother John and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Pearl Maginnis, brothers Mike and Robert, and his daughter in law Jennifer.

Dougs services will be at 3rdAvenue United Methodist Church Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at 1pm. A luncheon will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to his wife, Loretta.
