Obituary

Douglas William Andrews, 72, of Reed City, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Doug was born February 9, 1954, son of William and Beulah Andrews. On February 28, 1987, he married the love of his life, Deborah Murgittroyd. Together they shared nearly 40 years of marriage, building a life and a family filled with many memories that will be cherished forever.

Doug was never afraid to work hard and get things done. He took pride in building his own home and later starting his own business. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, or working in his garden. He also looked forward to camping every year with his camping family, making memories and enjoying time with the people he cared about.

Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, American Legion, and Elks. He was a founding member of Big Rapids Area Sharp Shooters (BRASS), often in the winner’s circle, and considered a true marksman. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand. He will be remembered for his hard work, his ability to fix anything, his love of the outdoors, and the many memories he made with those who loved him.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; children, Billie Jo (Robert) James, Micheal (Kelly) Andrews, Melissa (Will Haddock) Andrews, and Miranda (Rob Millsap) Andrews; grandchildren, Emma, William, Parker, and Julia; several fur grands and great-grands, along with all of the other family and close friends who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bea; his brother, Mike; step-father, Russ Peters; and in-laws, Elsie and Jim Murgittroyd.

A Celebration of Life Open House will take place from 1–3 p.m. with an informal time of sharing at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home (13985 Northland Drive, Big Rapids MI). Guests are invited to come and go as they wish, as no formal sit-down service will take place. At 3:00, anyone who wishes to share a short memory or story will have the opportunity. Anyone who wishes to send any pictures/stories/memories, feel free to send to RememberingDougAndrews@gmail.com.

Those who knew Doug will remember him for his quiet strength, his determination, his dependability, and the love he showed in his own way. He was a man who didn't need many words to let you know he cared. His presence, his stories, his hard-working nature, and his kind-heartedness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory can be made out to Big R Smokin Joe’s Comfort House (Hospice House).
