Douglas J. Roberts, age 74 of Barryton, passed away on June 25, 2014 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on February 28, 1940 in Monroe to Cletus and Luella (Goda) Roberts. He graduated from Monroe High School, and shortly thereafter married Sheila Thier on March 6, 1958 in Carlton and they made their home and raised their family in Monroe. Doug was employed for GM at the Willow Run plant in Ypsilanti. Upon retirement in 1989 they moved to Barryton. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed "fly in" fish trips, hunting, trapping, riding motorcycles, raising animals, playing the guitar, and making beer and wine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Sheila; one son Bart (Shirley) Roberts of TN; 2 granddaughters Nicole Roberts of TN and Alicia Roberts of FL; one brother Frederic of Barryton; one aunt Helena Schrader of Monroe; aunts-in-law, Shirley and Leona; brothers and sisters-in-law; Clint, Stewart, Gwendolyn, Gayle and Sue; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, John Joseph; two brothers, Erwin (Betty) and Cletus (Evelyn) Roberts; two sisters, Reita Riggs and Monica (Harold) Nadeau. Funeral Mass will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Father Joe Fix officiating. Interment will follow at Brown Cemetery in Barryton. The family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1st at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Doug's name may be given to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or the Barryton Senior Center.
