IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Gravelyn
December 2, 1927 – February 15, 2018
Dorothy M. Gravelyn, age 90 of Lake Isabella formerly of Chippewa Lake, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2018 in Mt. Pleasant. She was born December 2, 1927 in Chippewa Twp., Mecosta County, the daughter of Arthur "Earl" and Cleva (Maynard) McCormick. As a young lady she took on most of the male roles on the farm and household. She was proud to be an avid trapper following her Irish father to the lands they trapped. She was acknowledged many times for walking trap lines before heading home from school. Her knowledge of trapping and animals was immense, and she loved her 4-10s. Dorothy enjoyed deer hunting through the years and taught her family how to hunt and would always join them in their hunting parties. She was the only 70 year old grandmother who did not flinch at climbing a tree to hunt with her grandson. Her adventurous personality continues to contribute to our family even today. She married, James Gravelyn and together they raised their family in Grand Rapids. She worked for General Motors as a seamstress for 30 years and later returned to Chippewa Lake. Her legacy left is a family of strong children who never questioned their ability to succeed at any challenge put in front of them. Dorothy is survived by a son, LaVail & Cindy Hull of Traverse City; three daughters, Janice Hubbard of Lake Isabella, Wendy & Joe Peters of Rockford, Anne & Steve Mulder of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, Sarah Hull Mulder, Nathan & Heather Hull, David Hull & Kristen Baumann, Shayla & Adam McArthur, Tyler & Allison Hubbard, Samantha Metcalf, James & Lauren Peters, Riley McCormick Peters & Fianc Taylor Pawlanta, Jacob Mulder and Emilee Mulder; great-grandchildren, Adeline & Elliot Mulder, Scarlett Hull, Brynn & Bode McArthur, Henley & Brooks Hubbard, Cora & Lyla Metcalf, Leighton & Brody Peters; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Roger Gravelyn; sisters, Adeline McCormick and Virginia Budd. We would like to thank Hospice graciously for their support and ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to "Future Farmers of America". Services were entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Share a memory or leave a condolence for the family by clicking Dorothys guestbook tab at daggettgilbertfuneralhome.com.
