Dorothy Mildred (Buxton) Cole of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the age of 86. She was born in Lansing on August 24, 1931, the daughter of Eugene and Leona Buxton; she was one of 12 children. Dorothy married Gerald "Chuck" Cole on September 11, 1949 in Lansing and they moved to Big Rapids in 1965. She retired from Ferris State University in the Food Service department after 22 years. Dorothy enjoyed her weekly coffee and donuts with family, doing crossword puzzles, football, travel and her grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Rich) Gregorio of Texas; three sons, Steve (Gail) Cole of Florida, Kevin (Doneen) Cole of Evart, Greg (Raynette) Cole of Big Rapids; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gerald, Terry, Alan, Jack; one sister, Judy; many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald in 1995; four sisters, Neola, Barbara, Marilyn and Elaine; two brothers, Gene and Roy; a daughter, Tracey Cole; a son, David Cole and a daughter-in-law, Connie Cole. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. The family will greet friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lilley Township Cemetery in Bitely. The family would like to thank the staff at Altercare of Big Rapids and Heartland Hospice for the love and care shown to Dorothy Cole.
