Doris Ann Sowle, a lifelong resident of Barryton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Monday, February 6, 2023, at the age of 91. The last years of her life, Doris resided at Fountain View Assisted Living in Fremont where she was shown the upmost compassion and care. She was born November 27, 1931, the daughter of Charles and Mable (Sisco) Cummings. Doris graduated from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School. She married Arnold "Jack" Sowle on June 10, 1950, and together they raised their five daughters on the Cummings Farm. Doris was a dedicated and hard-working wife of a farmer. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church of Barryton and volunteered many hours at Gods Helping Hands in Remus. She was also employed by Chippewa Hills Public Schools as Elementary Librarian until she retired. Doris had many talents: she loved making wreaths and swags to sell at craft shows with her daughters. She loved her beautiful flower gardens. She also enjoyed reading and antiquing. Doris looked forward to bowling with Jack and her women friends along with golfing in her later years. She loved swinging and rocking in her chair on the porch. She loved watching the birds at her feeders and working in her flower gardens. She loved seeing all her flowering trees, and bushes, change throughout the seasons along with enjoying her view from her porch of the farm she grew up on. She loved all children, especially her grandchildren and spending time with them. She wanted to rock all the babies. Doris is survived by her five daughters, Cathy (Terry) Bowman, Sharon Sowle, Vicki (Rich) Andres, Deborah (Bill) Irwin, and Connie (Bill) Larson; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and all her Fountain View friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; and four sisters, Ardlene Grove, Evelyn Denslow, Verna Cornell, and Carol Schroeder-Shaffer. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 13, 2023, at the Church of Christ in Barryton with Jeff Wellman officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service at the Church of Christ beginning at 10:00 a.m. Doris will be laid to rest at Flake Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of plants and flowers memorial contributions may be made in Doris name to Fountain View Assisted Living, 102 Hillcrest Avenue, Fremont, MI 49412, Spectrum Health Hospice, or Gods Helping Hands.
