Doris J. Plumton, age 78 of Barryton, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Tendercare in Mt. Pleasant. She was born November 14, 1930 in Chester Twp., Ottawa County the only child of Owen and Lucile (Stockhill) Emmons. She married Malcolm E. "Mac" Plumton on July 3, 1953 at the Barryton Church of Christ. Doris had a variety of jobs in Barryton throughout her working career. She began her employment at Central Michigan Bank and Trust and then worked as the bookkeeper for McClain Chevrolet for 14 years before going back to work at the bank. Doris also worked for her husband Mac at the Barryton CoOp for a short time and later together they prepared tax returns for nearly 40 years. Doris was a member of the Barryton Rebekah Lodge and the Barryton American Legion Post #473 Women's Auxiliary for many years. Doris adored cats both her own and others, she enjoyed feeding birds, working crossword puzzles, playing the piano and recently watching the game show channel. One of Doris's most memorable experiences was seeing Frank Sinatra in concert. But the joy of Doris's life was her family and her great-grandsons were her greatest pleasure. She is survived by Son: Malcolm N. Plumton of Clare Daughter: Roxana (Teddy) McPherson of Barryton, Grandson: Thomas M. (fiance, Liz Henderson) McPherson of Barryton; great-grandsons, Christopher David and Andrew Scott; Sisters-in-law, Ruth Gilbert of Barryton and Dorothy Nestrick of Midland and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mac. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with Pastor James Breithaupt officiating. Burial will be at Strong Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Doris's memory may be made to "Pet Support" at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant.
