Doris L. Larsen, age 83, a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away, Friday, November 7, 2014 at her home. She was born April 19, 1931 in Big Rapids the daughter of Otto and Louise (Kaminski) Tetzlaff. Doris attended St. Peter's Lutheran School from Kindergarten until the 8th grade and graduated from Big Rapids High School. She married Dean Larsen on September 16, 1961 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and together they raised their family in Big Rapids. Doris was employed by Old Kent Bank, now known as Fifth Third Bank, for 32 years before she retired. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and was on the money counting team. Doris enjoyed helping others in need. She was involved in the Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child, collecting items for the shoeboxes to send to children. Doris was a strong woman and a cancer survivor. She loved her family and friends and spending time with them. Doris is survived by her two daughters, Shari Larsen and Karen Larsen both of Big Rapids; sister, Alice Helms of Mt. Pleasant; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Rhonda Stratton, Jon, Denise, Tara, Thomas and Stacia Erlandson; and her cat, Lucy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Larsen on August 27, 2011; sisters, Elinor and Louise Tetzlaff; and her parents. A memorial service will take place 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with Pastor Clay Bates officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service starting at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doris' name to Susan P. Wheatlake Regional Cancer Center or Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child.
