Doris M. Ervin, age 91, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at her home in Barryton. She was born February 13, 1924 to Roy C. and Mary E. (Tice) Hoffman, in Coldwater Twp., Isabella Co., MI. Doris was born a twin with her sister Dora Marie, dying in infancy. Doris was united in marriage in 1938 to Cloyce G. Miller of Weidman. To this union, two children were born. Carolyn Ruth and Cloyce Carl Miller. While raising her children, she worked as a nurses' aide in Mt. Pleasant and Lakeview, after the children's graduation from high school, Doris moved to Illinois. Doris graduated from Alton Junior College in 1962 at the age of 38 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 1972, at the age of 48, she graduated from Olney Central College with an associate Registered Nurse degree. Doris returned home to the family farm in 1981 and immediately went to work at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center, for the State of Michigan, retiring in 1988 after 33 years of employment. Her parents; daughter, Carolyn (Keith) Weimer; a brother, Franklin; her sister, Esther Goodno; two grandsons, Duane Cross, Steven Miller; a great-granddaughter, Molly Miller; her niece Maxine McIntyre; nephew, Douglas Goodno; and a great-niece, Tanya Harrington preceded her in death. Doris leaves behind a son, Carl Miller of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Sally (Clint) Giles, Daniel Cross, Barbara Cross, David (Theresa) Cross, Kathy Keith, Lynn (Jennifer) Keith, Frank (Shawna) Miller, Roger (Deana) Miller, David (Becky) Miller, Scott (Andrea) Miller, Matthew (Cris) Miller, Josh Miller, Karianne Drayer and Jenny (Chad) Lake; 2 step grandchildren Cindy (Bryan) Hayward and Kenneth Keith; numerous great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren and friends here and in Illinois. Doris was a pillar of the Barryton Lighthouse Free Methodist Church for many years and had been attending the Steadfast Baptist Church in Barryton when able. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the Sherman City Church (18 Mile Rd./W. Vernon and Allen Rd.) Weidman, MI with Pastors Matthew Miller and Tom Doherty officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 16th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton and one hour prior to services at the Sherman City Church. Interment will take place at the Sherman City Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Doris' name can be made to the Sherman City Church.
