Donna Jean Turner, age 88 of Big Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 26, 2023 at The Oaks of Belmont. She was a hometown girl, born and raised in Big Rapids on February 17, 1935, the daughter of the late Claude and Mary (Stoner) Wilson. After graduating high school in 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon Turner, and began raising a family. Once her children were in school, Donna started her career at Ferris State University; she was a dedicated employee of 27 years in Accounts Payable. Donna was known as Mom or Grandma even to those that werent related to her. Following retirement, she led a spirited life focused on her children, grandchildren, and her huge collection of family and friends. She loved following local sports teams and her family members as they moved forward in their lives. Donna volunteered wherever she was needed, especially at the Big Rapids Eagles where she was a member. Donna enjoyed her days playing cards with her friends, giving food and clothes to those in need, or at home reading a book or doing a puzzle. People that met her liked her instantly and could sense her warmth and integrity. Donna was a beautiful soul inside and out; she will be deeply missed. Donna is survived by her son, Philip (Jill) Turner of Cedar Springs; son-in-law, Randy Lentz; sister, Lois (Glenn) Waddell of Detroit; granddaughters, Kimberlee Turner of Kalamazoo, Kara (Alex) Turner-Earhart of Chicago, Kelly (fianc Dash) Lentz of California, Katy (Mark) OBryan of Maryland, Sarah (Andrew) Dicks of Grand Rapids, Ashley (Andy) Mulder of Galesburg, Sarah Turner of Paris, and Jake Turner of Lakeview; great-grandchildren, Avalynn and Owen Mulder and Preston Dicks; special cousin Sandi and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Turner, daughter Diane Lentz, son Jack Turner, brothers Robert, Marvin, and Wayne Wilson, and sister Mabel Starr. Funeral services will take place 12:00 p.m. (Noon) Friday, June 2, 2023 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home with Pastor Devon Herrell officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home. Donna will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids.
