Donna J. Acker, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 28, 2021. She was a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, born on April 18, 1932, the daughter of the late William and Caroline (Ellefson) Borstler. Donna graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1950. She married Gordon "Andy" Acker on October 30, 1954 and together they raised their daughter, Karen. Donna and Andy purchased the Standard Oil Company distributorship and plant in 1975 and established Acker Oil Company. She enjoyed her yearly trips to Key West with her daughter, meeting her friends for coffee at Bernies, going for hot dogs at the Corner Bar in Rockford, and having her grand-fur babies Caly and Dixon come for visits. Donna is survived by her daughter Karen (Keith) Maxey, brother-in-law Terry Paddock, sister-in-law Jane Borstler, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Acker in 2007; three brothers, Dick, Jim, and Bill Borstler; and sister, Carol Paddock. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Luncheon at the Big Rapids Eagles Aeries 2535, where Donna was a member, at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 3, 2021. A private family funeral service will be held and Donna will be laid to rest next to Andy at Highland View Cemetery. The family would like to thank all of the angels that helped care for Donna over the years and allowed her to stay in her home, including the home visits from members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. This home was special as it was the house that Andys father built on his grandfathers property and has been in the family for over 100 years. Memorial contributions may be made in Donnas name to Mecosta County Commission on Aging Meals on Wheels.
