Donald Olde Travers Sr., age 86 of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 15, 2012 in Big Rapids. He was born on November 9, 1925 to Beatrice (Tacoma) and Ernest "Jack" Olde. At the age of 3 his father passed away. He was raised in the Detroit/Metro area by his parents Beatrice and Herald Travers. On November 7, 1947 Don married Shirley L. Windhorst in Toledo, Ohio. In 1984, the couple made their home in Stanwood. They also maintain a residence in Sterling Heights. When Don was able he enjoyed camping, bowling and golf. Don is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley of Stanwood, three children; Herald Travers of Sterling Heights, Donald Travers Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Sandra (Robert) Rychlik of St. Clair Shores, three grandchildren; Belinda (William "Bill), Dione (Dale) and Brook and four great-grandchildren, William, Ashley, Taylor and Tyler. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two children; Denise and Dale Travers and a great-granddaughter, Brittany Myers. Cremation has taken place and no services are being planned at this time. Arrangements entrusted to Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Memorial donations in Don's name can be made to the American Cancer Foundation or Macular Degeneration Foundation.
