Donald D. Snavley, age 89, died Thursday, January 5, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 24, 1933 in Paris, the son of George and Minnie (Carter) Snavley. He graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951 and started working in the Tool & Die industry until retiring in 1995. Donald loved to work with his hands. His greatest hobby was working on tractors, tinkering on them or rebuilding them from the ground up with his sons. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald took great pleasure in watching the deer, turkeys, and the occasional black bear out his back window. He loved family gatherings and all the laughter that came with it. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Lavern of Big Rapids; children, James Snavley of Remus, Richard (Shelly) Snavley of Paris, Darlene (Mark) Vanderhoef of Big Rapids, Steven Snavley of Paris, Scott (Lisa Salvail) Snavley of Cedar Springs; siblings, Marvin (Ellen) Snavely, Diane (David) Johnson; sibling-in-laws, Kenneth Benkert, Letha Benkert; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and cherished dog, Penny. Donald was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Laverne, Dorothy, Eldora, Leola. Per Donalds wishes he will be cremated and a private family gathering is scheduled for Spring 2023.
