D. Orville Randle, age 82 of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, January 30, in Grand Rapids. He was born February 9, 1927 in Oklahoma City the son of Donald M. and Eva Lillian (Craig) Randle. While attending Oklahoma State University, Orville met the former Barbara Ann Wilson and they were married in 1953. They made their home in Tahlequah, OK where Orville taught at Northeastern Oklahoma State University. The young couple then moved to Superior, Wisconsin where Orville was a Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin- Superior. In 1963, Orville accepted a position at Ferris State University and the family moved to Big Rapids. Orville worked at Ferris until his retirement. Orville was a patent holder and a talented woodworker. He built the majority of the family home in Big Rapids and many of the furnishings that his family still enjoys. Besides his parents, Orville was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara Ann on January 26, 2009. He is survived by 3 sons; Craig Randle, D. Scott Randle both of Big Rapids, John (Linda) Randle of Rodney; 5 grandsons, Eric (Jessica) Randle of Pinckney, Wesley Randle of Big Rapids, Donny Randle of Anchorage, Alaska, Ben and Kyle Randle of Rodney; and 2 great grandsons, Austin and Evan Randle. A memorial service for Orville will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 3rd at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids with Reverend Dean Prentiss officiating. Memorial contributions in Orville's name may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
