Obituary

"Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that's how I'll remember each of you. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all." Dixie Lee Britten age 59 of Big Rapids passed away Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Mecosta County Medical Center. She was born on June 29, 1950 to "Bud" and Margaret (Zeller) Hock in Big Rapids. Dixie graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1968. She married Patrick J. Britten in 1980. Dixie loved all children and really enjoyed every chance she had to babysit. Playing computer games and watching "Little House on The Prairie" were two of her favorite pastimes. Dixie loved cats especially her own "Fat Cat" . You always knew where you stood with Dixie which made it easier to be her friend. Dixie is survived by her husband Patrick and children; Aimee Guild, Allison Britten and Pete Britten all of Big Rapids, two grandchildren: Ashlee and Jacob Guild, Mother: Margaret Zeller of Big Rapids, sister: Linda (Dick) Myers of Chippewa Lake and several nieces and nephews. Dixie was preceded in death by her father, sister; Carla Hock and daughter Nikki Miller. Cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. It was tradition with Dixie instead of receiving flowers on Mother's day her loved ones gave a donation in her honor to W.I.S.E or Project Starburst. In keeping with that tradition the family requests memorial contributions be given to the charities she was fond of.
