Dierdre I. Broome, age 89 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Crestwood Village Assisted Living with her husband Ronald by her side. She was born in Remus on April 18, 1933, the daughter of Otto and Vivian (Nelson) Batchelder. Dierdre attended Barryton Elementary School until she and her family moved to Ferndale. She married Ronald A. Broome on September 27, 1950 in Ferndale at her parents home. Together, Dierdre and Ronald raised their family in Middle Straits Lake before they moved to Chippewa Lake on her family farm. Dierdre enjoyed reading, especially the Bible; she also looked forward to listening to the Gospel. Dierdre liked Sudoku puzzles and feeding the birds. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ronald A. Broome; three sons, Ronald O. (Linda), Donald (Deborah), and David (Rita); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Batchelder; and many nieces and nephews. Dierdre was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Derrel Batchelder. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Chippewa Lake Cemetery.
