Obituary

Diane M. Gillespie, age 70 of Mecosta, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday February 21, 2013. She was born November 4, 1942 in New York, NY the daughter of John Vincent and Sara Ann (Grady) O'Connor. Diane graduated from Southside Senior High School, Rockville Center, Long Island, NY in 1961 and was employed at the Chancery Building in Rockville Center. She married Patrick J. Gillespie on October 10, 1964 and they made their home in Monsey, NY. While raising her children, Diane had worked in several school lunch rooms allowing her to be home for her family. In 1979 the family moved to Mecosta, following Patrick's retirement from the New York City Police Department. Diane was employed at Ferris State University in the Telecommunications Department until her retirement. She was a Parishioner at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus for nearly 35 years and prior to that, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Monsey, NY. Diane will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She put her family above all else. She is survived by her son, Patrick (Kristin) Gillespie of Indianapolis, IN and their two children, Nicholas Joseph and Madelyn Victoria; a daughter, Kathleen Mary Gillespie of Ionia and her daughter, Katelin Maureen Thompson; two brothers, Jack O'Connor of Orlando, FL, Robert (Alice) O'Connor of Enfield, CT; two sisters her twin, JoAnn (James) Clarke of Staten Island, NY, Roberta Barget of Long Island, NY; brothers-in-law, Fred Scherer of New Jersey, Frances (Ada) Gillespie of Florida, Bernard (Margaret) Gillespie of Valley Stream, NY; several nieces and nephews. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Patrick on July 14, 2010 and a sister, Kathleen Scherer. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 27th at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Remus with Father Michael Burt officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and also one hour prior to Mass at the church on Wednesday. Memorial contributions in Diane's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital
