Dewitt E. Obert, age 82 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully at his sons home in Stanwood, Thursday, December 9, 2021. He was born December 15, 1938 to Edgar and Blanche (Cook) Obert in Big Rapids. Dewitt graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1957. He married Sharon Borstler on November 27, 1960 and together they raised their family in Albion. Dewitt was employed by Albion College as a grounds supervisor for over 30 years, retiring in 1995. He and Sharon then moved to Big Rapids in 1997 where they made their home. Dewitt used his precision, talent, and experience to landscape the area around their home. He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and feeding the birds. Dewitt and Sharon also looked forward to taking road trips to the casino. He loved his family and spending time with them; especially when they joked around with each other. Dewitt is survived by his five children Brian (Susan) of Albion, Mary of Lansing, Alan of Stanwood, Dan (Marcia) of Albion, and Lester of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Rachel, Savannah, Jon (Morgan), Todd, and Colt; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea, DeWayne and David; sister-in-law, Joan of Rogers Heights; brother-in-law, Glen Marvel of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Sharon on September 30, 2021, daughter Brenda Obert, great-granddaughter Penelope Lou Obert, and eight siblings. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Todd McLane officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday. Dewitt will be laid to rest at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made in Dewitts name to the American Cancer Society.
