Delbert H. Sisson, age 83 of Big Rapids passed away Sunday, September 2, 2007 at his daughter's home with loved ones at his side. He was born November 14, 1923 in Muskegon to Russell and Bernice (Loss) Sisson. On March 30, 1947 he married Mary Jane Shoff in Detroit. They made their home throughout Michigan beginning in Muskegon, Dearborn, Walled Lake, White Lake, Shelby, Lewiston and St. Ignace before moving to Big Rapids in 1997 with their daughter Allitta. Delbert was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving with the 233rd Combat Engineers in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. There was not much that Delbert couldn't do if it interested him. He was handy with furnace repair, was a dairy man in Redford, MI for 20 years, managed apartment complexes, assembled Atari video games and was a self taught handyman. Delbert enjoyed his family, coin and stamp collecting, traveling, gardening and animals especially his dog Ginger. His family will remember him as being a happy but quiet man. Delbert is survived by four loving children: Deborah & Daniel Marso of Warwick, RI Russell Terry Sisson currently serving in the US Army Bryan Keith Sisson of Laurel, MS and Allitta &Thomas Hren of Big Rapids, MI Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren whom he enjoyed spending time with, one brother; Dale Sisson of Muskegon and several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary of over fifty years on January 3, 1998 and brother Phillip Jay Sisson. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at the Big Rapids Seventh Day Adventist Church (1031Rose St.) with Pastor Dave Gotshall officiating. Memorial donations in Delbert's name may be made to the Big Rapids SDA Church or Heartland Hospice.
