It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Ellen Carley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Born in Manhattan, New York, on February 5, 1952, Deborah graced the world with 74 years of love, joy, and inspiration until her peaceful departure on September 28, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Deborah's legacy is enriched with her passion for education and the arts. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Ferris State University and further honed her craft at the esteemed American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. Her vibrant spirit found expression in off-Broadway plays, where her performances left indelible marks on all who had the pleasure of witnessing her talent. Beyond the stage, Deborah was a dedicated Academic Advisor, touching countless lives with her wisdom, guidance, and empathy.

A beacon of positivity, Deborah embraced life's experiences with an open heart. Her deep faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found solace and community at the First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. Her nurturing soul flourished in her garden, where she found peace and purpose, as well as in her kitchen, where she delighted family and friends with her exceptional culinary creations.

Deborah's unwavering love and kindness leave an enduring imprint on her cherished family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Carley, and their son Philip Carley and his wife Elizabeth. Her legacy continues in her adored grandchildren, Jayce and Bexley, who will carry her love forward. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Marilyn and Annette, and her nieces and nephews: Lauren, Landen, Joseph, Sarah, Elizabeth, and Kara. Her great-nieces and nephews, Michaela, Yakira, Raizel, and Akiva Pelta, will always treasure her memory. Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Frances Shulman, and her parents-in-law, Robert and Beatrice Carley.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. located at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Following the service, there will be a luncheon for friends to greet family held at Big Rapids First United Methodist Church. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and legacy, with arrangements provided by Daggett Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
