Deanna D. Block, age 57 of Morley, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, July 23, 2023, at the barn where she boarded her horses; enjoying what she loved, spending time with Sunny and her colt Stretch. She was born in Muskegon on June 11, 1966, the daughter of Bill and Barb (Bowen) DeGroot. Deanna graduated from Ravenna High School. She continued her education earning her Cosmetology License and owning and operating a salon. Deanna married Paul Block on June 26, 1992, in Martin, MI and together they raised two of their five children, Patrick and Nate. During this time Deanna went back to school at Grand Rapids Community College and then to Western Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor Degree in Biology, Chemistry, and Pre-medicine, then her Master of Science in Medicine obtaining her Physicians Assistant Certification. Deanna began her career as a Physicians Assistant in 2003 and held various jobs at multiple Emergency Room and Urgent Care facilities across West Michigan and was currently employed at Corewell Health Walk-In Clinic in Lakeview. Deanna and Paul moved their family to Morley in 2012 where Deanna was able to have her hobby farm, horses, and any animal she could bring home with her. She was a member of Mecosta County 4-H, DeColores and Deco-TEC, Christian Motorcycle Association, and had several students come stay from the Foreign Exchange Student Program. Deanna enjoyed hiking, traveling, riding her horse, and playing guitar. She took pleasure in growing vegetables in her garden, canning, cooking, and making homemade wine and hard cider. Deanna was hospitable and enjoyed serving others. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Paul; five children, Patrick, Nate (Haley), Thomas, Paige, and Adonis; her parents, Bill and Barb; her grandson, Caleb and two on the way; sister, Denise (Matthew) Sheffer; sisters-in-law, Jackie DeGroot, Betsy (Rob), and Katie (Doug); brothers-in-law, Scott and Eric (Julie); mother and father-in-law, Paul and Sara; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Dawn, Corrie, and Deanna. Deanna was preceded in death by her brother Dean DeGroot and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Funeral Services will take place 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Trinity Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Big Rapids, where she attended. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 30th and Monday, July 31st at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Church.
