Obituary

On Wednesday morning, May 20, 2009 David D. Knoertzer of Chippewa Lake passed away at Cadillac Mercy Hospital at the age of 50. He was born Sept. 29, 1958 in Mt. Pleasant to Donald and Delores "Dee" Knoertzer. Dave was raised in Wheeler, MI before moving to Chippewa Lake when he was 8 years old. While enlisted in the United States Army he earned his G.E.D and was honorably discharged in the mid 80's. Dave enjoyed serving his community as a veteran and he was previously a volunteer firefighter for Martiny Twp. Fire Dept. Dave was a scout leader and little league coach while his children were growing up. He enjoyed taking time to fish, camp and hunt with his children who will remember the lessons their dad taught them. Dave was a self employed electrician who formerly worked at Schilnder, Otis and Schuberg. Currently he was helping out at Lattimore Mobile Homes when his health allowed. Dave is survived by two children: Christopher (Stephanie Hampel) of Mecosta and Angela of Chippewa Lake, three brothers; Dennis (Lana) Knoertzer of Kalkaska, Douglas (Stacey) Knoertzer of Kalkaska and Daniel Devereaux of Brunswick, Maine, one sister Dawn (John Jr.) Raines of Chippewa Lake, 5 step brothers; Michael (Connie) Devereaux of Fort Collins, CO, Jeff Devereaux of Buchanan, Tim Devereaux of Niles, IN, Greg Devereaux of Niles, IN, Matt Devereaux of FL, his faithful companion Shep, several beloved nieces, nephews and numerous close friends including Dolly Knoertzer. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and step father Richard Devereaux. The family would like you to bring your favorite photo of Dave to a time of reflection and celebration 12:00 p.m. (noon) Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Chippewa Lake Community Building. Memorial donations in Dave's name may be given to Cadillac Mercy Hospital or the veteran's organization of your choice.
