David Idema, 87, of Hersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2024. He was born on April 6, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Bert and Harriett (Lubben) Idema. On June 25, 1960, David married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Engstrom, in Big Rapids. Together, they built a beautiful life. Dave was the proud owner and operator of D.B. Idema Builders for many years, dedicating himself to his craft and the success of his business. Despite a busy work life and raising three sons, David found joy in the great outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening. He had a talent for cooking and a passion for hosting gatherings, where he shared stories and created lasting memories with family and friends. David's greatest joy was bringing family together and cherishing time spent with loved ones. Dave is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Ann Idema; his children, Kenneth (Anne) Idema, Mark Idema, and John (Vicky) Idema; his grandchildren, Scott (Amber), Laurel (Aaron), Jessica, and Josh; and his great-grandchildren, Gabby, Isaac, and Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Mitchell; and his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Shirl Idema. A memorial service to honor Davids life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes in Big Rapids.
