On Sunday, June 11, 2017, we lost our father, David F. Hall, 86 of Big Rapids, who was the kindest and most loving father we could have asked for. His life was devoted to his wife Marjorie and their children. We will miss his gentle and caring personality, sense of humor and never ending smile. David was born on December 12, 1930 in Big Rapids, MI, the son of Frank and Gladys (Bloomquist) Hall. David was a member of the Third Avenue Methodist Church, the Eagles and the BPOE Elks. David graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1948. He played the trumpet in a dance band while in high school. David attended Ferris State University for two years before joining the U.S. Navy serving in Key West, FL for two years before transferring to New London, CT for the balance of his four year tour of duty. While serving in New London, he met Marjorie Hale and they married just before his tour with the Navy ended. David and Marjorie moved to Big Rapids where David worked with his brother Chuck in their fathers grocery store for two years. He then began working at Good Housekeeping (furniture store) and worked there until it was purchased by Van Drie Home Furnishings, which he retired from in 1993. David enjoyed golfing with his wife Marjorie, his children and his many friends at Meceola Country Club where they were members for over 40 years. David and Marjorie had lots of fun visiting their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the many wonderful trips they took with them. They also loved their Saturday night card parties with their nieces and nephews. David is survived by his three children Debra (Steve Howell) Spedowske of Midland, MI; Roxane (Rich) Schulkins of Bloomington, IL; Andy (Anita) Hall of Geneva, IL and his sister Bonnie (Douglas) Randolph of Spring Arbor, MI. He also had six grandchildren: Lacey (Justin) Murray, Casey and Kelley Schulkins and Emily, Christopher and Matthew Hall and two great grandchildren: Mikayla and Kylie Murray; and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hall, his parents, his brother Chuck, sister-in-law Kathleen, nephews Scott Randolph and Steve Hall and niece Cindy Hall Jensen. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home with Pastor Kim DeLong officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Michigan or Third Avenue Methodist Church.
