June 3, 1947 – May 24, 2019
David Gilroy age 71 of Rodney passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on June 3, 1947 to Bernie and Lena (Rice) Gilroy in Manistique, MI. He graduated from Manistique High School in 1965. David was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1971 and was stationed on the USS Harry Yarnell. On December 8, 1973 he married Marylou Anderson and they made their home in Manistique before moving to Rodney. He was always a worker. He started working young with his dad in the quarry and later as a meat cutter. David was instrumental in the development of the fire department in Schoolcraft County where he served as chief for a number of years. He was a charter boat captain in the UP and was an active member of whichever church he was attending at the time. David worked throughout the State of Michigan as a phone technician. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening until he was diagnosed with plasma cell leukemia in 2017. He liked to stay busy and loved spending time at his camp in Manistique. David is survived by one son, Mitchell David Gilroy; a daughter, Kelly (Eulid) Moya of Puerto Rico; two brothers, Dwight (Catherine) Gilroy of Rodney and Don (Linda) Gilroy of East China; a sister, Deena (Eliot) Brace of Huntington, IN and one granddaughter, Karla Moya. David was preceded in death by his parents and Marylou in 2016. A life celebration will be held Friday, May 31, 2019 at 1:00 p.m., at the Barryton Church of God where he attended. Memorial contributions in David's name may also be donated to the church. Inurnment will be at Martiny Township Cemetery.
