Obituary

Dava Leith Cook, age 61, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Corewell Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. She was surrounded by those that loved her on her final days, and gave the ultimate gift of donation. She was born on December 6, 1962 in Shelby, MI to David and Carolyn (Thebo) Cook. Dava spent most of her working years at Ferris State University in Big Rapids. She did many things there over almost 30 years, but most recently she was their mail room coordinator. She loved the outdoors; Dava was often seen feeding the deer and birds on the property where her and her husband resided. She loved to spend her summers out on the boat and could often be found sitting on the beach when she had the time. She loved her grandchildren and nieces and nephews and always made a point to be at their activities; football, cheer, band and wrestling, even if she didnt understand the sport. She often helped with making her famous rice crispy treats, and we know they will be missed. Dava had many unique things about her but her name was always noticed. When she was born as the third girl to David and Carolyn, Davidss grandmother told him that the chances of him getting a son were slim and he had to name her after himself. He was reluctant at first but she eventually won the argument and the name David Keith was made into Dava Leith and eventually she let him back in the house. Dava is survived by her husband, Carl Lowing of Chase; her son, Christopher (Candy) Wolgamott of Reed City and their children, Heather, Madelyn, Christopher, Moriah and Arianna; her bonus children, Tammy (Ricky) Davison, Lynn Lowing, Bridgett (Joe) Plafkin, and Carl (Megan) Lowing and their 12 children and two grandchildren. Missing her always will be her siblings, Rhonda (Bruce) VanOeveren, Ruth Anne (George) Gilbert, Keith (Becky) Cook, Dawn (Scott) Orange, Andy (Jeanne) Cook and their children and grandchildren; and brothers-in-law, Phil and David Lowing; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Bob Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son David Wolgamott. There will be a celebration of life from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Reed City Depot, 200 N. Chestnut Street, Reed City, MI 49677.
