Darrell L. Schmidt, age 71 of Chippewa Lake, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He was born October 19, 1943 in Lansing, the son of Louis and Minnie (Hoisington) Schmidt. Darrell retired from Fisher Body General Motors in Lansing after 28 years of employment. He married Linda Davis on December 22, 1989 and together they made their home at Chippewa Lake. Darrell was a member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie 2535. He enjoyed traveling in his RV to Arizona in the winter and playing his guitar. Darrell was an outdoorsman; spending his time boating, golfing, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Linda Schmidt of Chippewa Lake; six sons, Phillip Schmidt of Lansing, Paul (Angela) Schmidt of Charlotte, Jeff (Stacey) Schmidt of Holt, Adam Schmidt of Lansing, Brian Neumann of Charlotte and Mike (Michelle) Neumann of Jenison; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four siblings, Robert (Joan) Schmidt of Charlotte, Sandra Schmidt of Lansing, Kimberly (Mike) Vroman of Lansing and Edward (Mary) Schmidt of Grand Rapids; many nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosemary Schmidt; and daughter-in-law (Phillip's wife), Joyce Schmidt. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Memorial contributions in Darrell's name may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice. Envelopes may be picked up at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
