Daniel N. Henderson, age 83 of Reed City, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at his home. He was born September 26, 1927 in Doddridge County, West Virginia the son of Daniel and Myrtle (George) Henderson. Dan moved to Reed City in 1941 and graduated from Reed City High School in 1946. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving during World War II. On September 23, 1949 Dan and Ruth Brocker were married and raised their family in the Reed City area. Dan worked for the Osceola County Road Commission for 28 1/2 years as an equipment operator. After retirement in 1975, he worked as a part-time sign painter. He was a gifted musician known to family and friends as "Banjo Dan." He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth Henderson of Reed City; 2 daughters, Judy (Rev. Larry) Rolston of Coral and Elaine (Otto) Kamptner of Rodney; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn (Jeffery) Vriezelaar; his parents; his brother, Arley Henderson; and 2 sisters, Leona Litson and Clarissa Underwood. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home of Big Rapids with Pastor Bert Boes officiating. Burial will take place at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City. The family will greet friends Thursday, February 24th at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in Dan's name to the New Tribes Mission.
