Obituary

Daniel Hanba, DDS (58) was born on April 27, 1955 in Dearborn, Michigan, and he died on October 12, 2013 at his home in Big Rapids, Michigan. He had been fighting a difficult battle with cancer. Dan's loving parents, Frank and Helen Hanba preceded him in death only two years ago. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Carol (Randall) Hanba, and their two sons Daniel David Hanba (24) and Curtis Jacob Hanba (22). His family was his greatest source of pride and devotion. When Dan was younger, he attended the University of Detroit High School and his parents provided him with percussion lessons. Dan loved to play drums and used his talent to help pay for college. He met his wife, Carol when they both attended the University of Detroit Mercy and he graduated from dental school in 1981. Dan married Carol in her home town of Port Huron, Michigan in 1983. The couple chose to make their home in Big Rapids so that Carol would be close to her job teaching clinical dental hygiene at Ferris State University and Dan could practice dentistry with his brother, Frank in nearby Reed City. Dan and Frank enjoyed working together in Reed City for the next 25 years and Dan has continued working there since his brother retired in 2005. Dan and Carol made their home in Golfview subdivision because Dan also had a passion for golf. He enjoyed many hours on the course with friends and he passed his love of the game on to his boys. Besides Carol, Daniel & Curtis; Dan is survived by his two brothers (and their wives); Frank ( JoAnn) Hanba DDS, of Cape Canaveral, Florida, Larry ( Lisa) Hanba, of Naples, Florida and his only sister and her husband, Marian (Tim) Theriault of Grand Rapids. Also, by his Mother-in-law Barbara Randall, and Carol's three sisters and their husbands, Ann (John) Kendrick, Pat (Noel) Leach, and Mary (Jeff) Hart. Survivors also include Dan's ten nieces; Jessica Parks, Vanessa Hanba, April Theriault, Kaite Theriault, Laura Godwin, Heather Kendrick, Hannah Hart, Jessica Hart, Katie Leach and Amy Leach, nine nephews; Christopher Hanba, Erik Hanba, Jeffery Hart, David Hart, Aaron Theriault, Bryan Theriault, Mark Theriault, Robert Leach, Rick Leach and one great-nephew, Luke Godwin. Dan's wit and humor will be greatly missed by family and friends who knew him. Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 16th, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with lunch and reception following at Falcon Head Golf Course. Visitations will be on Tuesday, October 15th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Dan's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or to his family.
