Obituary

Daniel James "Jim" Byrnes, age 63 of Reed City, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 at Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born April 19, 1943 in Big Rapids to Maurice and Agnes (Zimmerman) Byrnes. Jim attended both St. Mary's School and Church in Big Rapids and most recently had attended St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Reed City. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He married Mae (Fulmerhouser) in 1968 and together they lived in Big Rapids until 1995 and then moved to Reed City. Jim's life's work was as a truck driver. He had been an active member of American Legion Post #98 of Big Rapids for 23 years and had served on their firing squad for 11 years. For the past 12 1/2 years of his life Jim had been a dialysis patient. He is survived by his wife; Mae of Reed City His son: Ollie (Janet) Byrnes of Reed City and grand-children; Sonya, Amanda, and Maurice Byrnes His daughter: Dalynn (David) Lewis and granddaughters; Abigail, Cecilia, and Olivia Lewis Adopted Grandson; Brian Chester Sister: Maureen Debski of Comstock Park Brothers: Matthew (Sally) Byrnes of Rodney Denny (Louise) Byrnes of Big Rapids Eddie (Judy) Byrnes of Rodney and several nieces and nephews. One aunt: Mary Zimmerman of Big Rapids and many cousins and dear friends. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant son and a sister; Mary Trese. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 17th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Father Tom Page officiating. The family will greet friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Big Rapids.
